New athletic center will serve as football program’s focal point and help attract the nation’s most gifted student-athletes

Student-athletes at the University of Miami are exactly that— students first and athletes second. They tackle a rigorous schedule of academics and physical competition to be able to represent the U with pride. A gift directed by Ted and Todd Schwartz from the Schwartz Family Foundation will enable the University to provide its 400-plus student-athletes with the resources they need to compete at the highest level in the classroom and on the playing field.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the tradition of excellence and great athletic accomplishments at the University of Miami.”

Ted Schwartz

The University has broken ground on the Theodore G. Schwartz and Todd G. Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence, a two-level 34,000-square-foot multipurpose facility that will serve as the focal point of UM’s five-time national championship football program and help attract and retain the most gifted student-athletes in the nation. The project includes enhanced football facilities, including a new football locker room, players lounge, and Gallery of Champions celebrating the legacy of Hurricanes Athletics; a new academic center; and an expansion of the existing Hecht Athletic Center to include a state-of-the-art sports medicine facility.

Theodore “Ted” Schwartz founded APAC Customer Services, which provides customer call center and business process services. His son, Todd, is director of the family foundation and founder and president of Beach Coast Properties and Opportunity Financial. The Schwartz family’s gift to UM Athletics follows a transformational gift in 1999 from University Trustee Christine Schwartz and Ted Schwartz to help build the M. Christine Schwartz Center for Nursing and Health Studies.
