Wayne E. Chaplin, Esq., B.B.A. ’79, J.D. ’82

School of Law Campaign Chair

Wayne E. Chaplin is president and chief operating officer of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, the country’s leading distributor of wines and spirits. He also serves as president of the SWS Charitable Foundation, Inc., and director of the Wayne and Arlene Chaplin Family Foundation; chairman of the Mount Sinai Medical Center Board of Trustees Executive Committee; director of the Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation; and trustee of the Miami Country Day School.

Chaplin is a two-time graduate of the University of Miami. His wife, Arlene, and their son are also UM alumni. He is vice chair of the University of Miami Board of Trustees and is the recipient of the Alumni Association’s Green Award for Outstanding Fundraiser (2009).

In addition to his generous contributions to the School of Law, Chaplin has supported the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Through the SWS Charitable Foundation, Inc., the Chaplin Family Scholarship Fund was also established at the School of Law.

Larry J. Hoffman, Esq., J.D. ’54

School of Law Campaign Vice Chair

Larry J. Hoffman is one of the founders of Greenberg Traurig and chairs the firm’s board and executive committee. Having practiced in the areas of corporate, securities and banking law for over 40 years, he has devoted most of his time and effort in the last 15 years to participating in the active management of the firm and is a well-known student and authority on law firm management. He has been listed in Super Lawyers magazine; Florida Super Lawyers, 2006 – 2009; and The Best Lawyers in America, Corporate Law, 1989 – 2012.

Hoffman holds a degree from the School of Law, as do his wife, Deborah, and son, Kenneth. A long-time supporter of the School’s initiatives, Larry Hoffman has taught securities, tax, and corporate law as part of a course in Advanced Business Planning. His exceptional generosity to the School of Law includes funding for students and faculty.

Carolyn B. Lamm, Esq., J.D. ’73

School of Law Campaign Vice Chair

Carolyn B. Lamm is a partner in the law firm White & Case. Her practice concentrates on international dispute resolution through international arbitration, litigation and international trade matters. She is involved primarily in the representation of foreign corporate clients and foreign sovereigns and has been recognized repeatedly for her professional expertise in international dispute resolution and leadership in the profession.

Lamm is a frequent lecturer on litigation, international arbitration, and international trade, and was appointed by President Clinton to the U.S. Panel and later by the Government of Uzbekistan to the Uzbek Panel of Arbitrators for International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) arbitration. She is a member of the American Arbitration Association Executive Committee and Board and has served as an arbitrator in AAA International Rules disputes.

Prior to joining White & Case, Lamm worked for the U.S. Department of Justice under the Attorney General’s Program for Honor Law Graduates and served as a trial attorney in the Fraud Section, Civil Division, before becoming assistant director of the division’s Commercial Litigation Branch.

Among her numerous recognitions, Lamm received the Edward T. Foote Alumnus of Distinction Award in 2008 and the UM School of Law Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2007. She and her husband, Peter, are both graduates of the School of Law, and their son is also a ’Cane. Lamm’s generosity to her alma mater includes contributions to the School of Law, the President’s Initiatives Fund, and the Otto G. Richter Library.
